My Endless List of ATC Ideas!

On April 21st I will be hosting the ATC/Card Swap Category at http://www.myscraproom.ning.com/ so I decided to do an ATC swap.  Wracking my little pea brain trying to come up with an original idea, but I've never made an ATC before and have no idea what's been done before.  Given that...how can I be original, huh?

Well, way back when, I watched (repeatedly, I might add) Roxy's video of the purse mini she made with the theme "Inspiring Women".  I like that idea and am determined to do a mini with that theme some day.  Anyway, it occured to me that "My Most Inspiring Woman" would be a good theme... still, I'm not sure.

Decided I'd do a GOOGLE search for ideas and came across a blog http://tanyastreehouse.blogspot.com/.  Anyway...she had started a list of ATC ideas and came up with 50 of her own, with the goal of getting the list to 100.  She had some great ideas so check out her blog.  I'm making a list too (it's kind of fun) and if you have more ideas please stick em in your comment. I love brainstorming....makes me feel renewed after the storm is over!

So here goes with my list:

  2. Memories
  3. Music/Favorite Song

  5. Eyes
  6. Babies

  20. Moment in Time
  21. Space
  22. Time Travel
  23. Birth/Life
  24. Celebration
  25. Words/Quotes
  26. Freedom
  27. Sky
  28. History
  29. Games

Phew!!!!! I made it to 50...think I'll stop with that for now.  Think I have to make some ATC's.... find out if it's more fun to make them or to come up with themes for them, lol.

A Little off the Beat & Path of Scrapbooking....Lets talk about music!

The Song "American Pie" or "The Day the Music Died"  by Don McLean was released in 1971.  Admittedly it is a strange song, but with a great tune.  I was listening to it earlier and was thinking, "I wonder what it really means?"  I don't usually think about that sort of thing, just enjoy a song for the sound of it.  Anyway, this one has so many different liine in it and it seems to mean something, but what?  Of course McLean is an American and the references in the song are to American history and me being Canadian might be why I didn't get the references in this song.  Maybe all you American scrapbookers already know the meanings in this song or at least some of them.  If you don't, or you want to refresh your memory, I came across this website today when looking up the lyrics of the song.  I found it rather interesting to learn all that is referenced to in this song.  McLean was not happy about a lot of things going on around him and he put it all into this song.  Check this out if you're interested.  Click HERE

More Scrappy Fun with My Scraps

video

He Called and Screamed "Go to the Hospital"

Friday started out like any day, but around 11am the phone rang. Hubby screams into the phone, "Go TO THE HOSPITAL"
":Why?" is of course what I say.
"One of our daughters is there and she can't breathe."  he reply's.
"Which one?" I asked.  (We have twin 18 yr old daughters that share an apartment near by)
"I don't know."  he yelled.  "Just get there." and he hung up.
Being it was spring break, my 11 yr old son was still sleeping.  I called him to get up and we were out of the house in less than 5 minutes.  Of course getting out of the driveway was hard because that's when everyone decides to drive by.  In fact "Everyone" in town seemed to want to get in my way then.  I get to the hospital and trying to turn into the parking lot an old man who could only move as fast as a snail is walking across the opening on an extreme angle so I had to wait forever to get in, lol.  Isn't that always the way.
So we get into emergency and someone we know was in the waiting room and told me that they were in there...pointing of course into the emergency room.  I go in and that's when I learn which daughter it is.  She's sitting in a chair with oxygen on and my husband and her two friends are there with her.  The friends left at that point and left us with her.  After many hours of trying to help her calm down and get her breathing under control (and moving her from room to room) the doctor finally shows up...for all of about 2 minutes, then leaves without saying anything.  Returns about a half hour later, had her blow in a breathe measurer thingy and left again.  Half hour later he returns, gives her a prescription for an asma inhaler, says it wasn't a panic atack like we thought and that it was likely just phlem or something constricting her breathing and that not knowing why she was having trouble breathing, it upset her enough that her breathing was made worse.  So he just told her to use the inhaler if it happened again.
So in all, it turned out just fine and she's ok, but when your kid can't breathe, and it doesn't matter if they are 18 months or 18 yrs old, it is a very scary experience.

Organizing My Scraps and Challenging Myself to Use Only the Scraps for the Next 30 Days

video

Altered Wood Plaque

I just altered this plaque.  Picked ip up at my dollar store for $1.25 the other day. Gotta love the dollar store, huh!  So anyway, I painted it out with black acrylic paint then went over it with a gold metalic acrylic paint.  Gives it kind of a bronzed look. Decided to use a denim pocket I cut from a pair of girls jeans I picked up for a $1 at our local thrift store.  Stuffed some tissue paper in the pocket, glued it on with my trusty hot glue gun then embelished it with tons of flowers.  Inked up some chipboard letters with my very first and only Distress Ink I got the other day, glued them on, then some trim, couple embellishments and a bit of bling and voila, it's done.  I think it came out pretty well, although I may have gone a bit overboard with the flowers and I'm not real sure I have the knack for flower arranging, but who cares, right?  As long as you like it when it's done and I do like it.  That was tons of fun to make.  If you haven't done something like this, why not give it a go.

Now I'm feeling like I'm ignoring my first love of 12x12 layouts. It's been months since I've done a page so I think I'm going to sit down and do a few pages. Also I have to get back to organizing my room.  Right now I have all my paper spread out on the floor and I'm sorting through it and putting it some kind of order so I can see what I have.  Next the drawer of scraps.  I'm going to commit myself to using a lot of those over the next little while.  Maybe come up with some great new ways of using them. Well, better get busy and have some fun!

See you soon,

Hugs,
Dee

Scraproom Organization. It Gets Worse Before it Gets Better!

OMG! I'm organizing my scraproom, but if someone came in right now and saw it, they'd think I was robbed and everything had been thrown around the room. I can't even bring myself to show you a picture of what it looks like right now. SCARY STUFF!!!!  But hey, I'm a scrapper and you can't expect me to be organized...for more than 15 minutes anyway!

So, something good has happened in there. The other day I got this great shelving for only $10 from a store that closed down.  I put some stuff on it, but I don't hink this is the final outcome.  Not sure if I want to use it to display my creations and the most amazing creations I get from swaps or put supplies on it. I'm leaning towards the first one.  What do you all think?

Altered Clipboards I've Been Making

I love altering clipboards.  To me it is like doing a regular layout if you ad photos.
This is so easy to do, but a lot of fun.  With both of these I first painted them, then glued on the papers.  Aded embellishments & photos. The clip on the green clipboard has been painted and the clip on the pink one was colored with a sharppy perminant marker.

A SWAP that's not a SWAP - Thank you Gina, Your Awesome Mini Album Pages

Hey All
I decided to do a SWAP that's not a Swap for Gina (Scrapinology) on Youtube to thank her for hosting such a great website where we can all go and meet new friends and have a lot of fun.  Her website is www.myscraproom.ning.com

What I'd like to do is have as many people that want to participate, create a 6x6 mini album page for Gina.

Rather than everyone sending their page to me, just send your page directly to Gina...give her the fun of binding them all together! LOL  Then she can show us what she got in a video! (Hope you don't mind Gina!)

So, if you want to participlate in this Not a Swap, Swap for Gina.... here are the rules.

First, leave a post saying you would like to participate.

Then, make a 6x6 page (using chipboard, box board, accetate etc) your choice.
Make sure you leave a reasonable border on one side of the page for binding purposes.
Your page must have......
a handmade flower
a place for at least one photo
room for journaling
include one repurposed item
something on the page must have sparkle of some sort (glitter, glimmer mist, bling etc)
Include a personal note to Gina

One more thing....and this is the most important.....YOU NEED TO ALSO GIVE GINA A STAMP....I don't think she has enough and we all know how much she loves them!

Signups are open until Saturday March 5th.  Have your page in the mail to Gina by Monday March 28th.

OK, so that's it....I think this will be fun!

Let me know if you are interested.

HUGS,

Dee

Welcome to My Blog

HI EVERYONE! I'm just getting started in the online world of Scrapbooking. It's such an EXCITING place to be. The internet is full of so many talented people and I'm thrilled to finally be part of it.

For the past two years I've been scrapbooking like it was the only thing on earth! Some time after I began SB I discovered that there were thousands of other scrapbookers all over the world that were sharing their love for paper crafts on youtube. I've watched hundreds, well... probably thousands of scrapbooking/paper crafting videos, but only recently got up the nerve to post video's of my own.

I've already met some great people and participated in a few swaps. I think it's amazing how the world is no longer this huge impersonal place. Through this wonderful media called the World Wide Web, we are able to share ourselves, our families, our dreams, our desires, our friendship and our talents with so many special people we normally would never get the chance to know. So many have even met in person and I think that's astranomical!

I look forward to finding my own personal style in blogging and hope you will follow along. I will have a lot to share with you and I hope you will share with me too.

Now lets get started!!!

Always with LOVE & HUGS
Dee
